GREENFIELD — The more things change, the more they stay the same.

The new owners of Bart’s Cafe of Greenfield say the look of the restaurant and some of the menu items have changed, but customer service, good food and coffee and ice cream remain their priority.

Seth Crawford and Mindy Boudreau-Price are the business partners who are making it all happen.

They’ve retained some of the “old” staff and hired some new. They’ve reorganized the kitchen and painted the dining room.

“We wanted a warmer feeling,” said Crawford, who is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in New York. “We want this to be a place people come and hang out. We want families to feel welcome here.”

Boudreau-Price said Bart’s continues to serve Pierce Brothers coffee and Snow’s and Bart’s ice cream. “All of our baked goods are homemade,”
she said. “We carry Adam’s doughnuts fresh each day.”

Boudreau-Price said she has worked as a waitress and spent most of her time in the “business world.”

“I heard about this and it looked like a good investment — I’m always looking for a good investment,” she said. “I’d never considered commercial before, but I liked the idea of owning a local business.”

Boudreau-Price was born and raised in Greenfield and went to its schools. She, her husband and her children live in Greenfield.

She said she was able to invest in the business with the help of savings, family and friends.

“I just couldn’t find a reason not to become a partner with Seth,” said Boudreau-Price.

She said she’d like to focus on families and children.

“I love the ice cream part of it — that’s a real draw for children and families,” she said. “And, I want people to come in for a good meal at a decent price. We have something for everyone.”

Boudreau-Price said the cafe is using as many natural and local products as possible.

“This is a comfortable, clean environment,” said Boudreau-Price. “People are going to enjoy themselves here.”

Crawford has lived in the area for eight years. He currently lives in Montague.

“He’s an incredible chef,” said
Boudreau-Price.

Crawford has worked in restaurants in Greenfield, Amherst, Northampton, Shelburne Falls, Montague and Hatfield. He was coowner of the former Holy Smokes restaurant in Hatfield, which was destroyed by fire in 2007.

“We’ve decided to extend our hours, too,” said Crawford. “We wanted people to have more choices when they’re getting out of a movie or they’re out with their kids or
friends.”

Bart’s Cafe of Greenfield, 286 Main St., is open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

The cafe serves breakfast, including pancakes, eggs and omelets and french toast, lunch, including sandwiches, salads and soups, baked goods and ice cream. The kitchen closes at 8 p.m., but restaurant remains open until 9:30.
